For the week of: January 26, 2012 The river is frozen...and it looks like the ice is here to stay for a while. This was the first week we saw the local commercial fishermen riding across on their ATV's -- about 2 miles from shore! There is plenty of ice fishing going on in the area -- they're catching lots of fish on 12+" of ice. Yesterday Todd caught sauger, crappie, perch, bass, & northern and is back at De Soto Bay today. We ate delicious fresh fish tacos last night -- yum!
We are open and have plenty of rooms available. Thinking about getting away this winter? Just come to do nothing but relax, or try your hand at some ice fishing. Plan to come for the first Saturday of March for Ferryville's annual Bald Eagle Day. Last year they had an eagle, owl, hawk, & falcon for all to see at the community center. Also, the Decorah Eagle Cam is back up -- the pair of eagles primping up the nest, getting ready for laying eggs!
It's not too soon to be planning a visit for next spring, summer, or fall as we already have numerous reservations in the book (especially July & October). We look forward to seeing old friends and welcoming new guests.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
Donna's Garden Report: Okay, no flowers blooming.... but I've been paging through magazines & seed catalogs to gather ideas for next spring! All kinds of plans to consider. I enjoy the winter break but really looking forward to digging in the dirt.
