The Grandview Motel in Ferryville, Wisconsin is located at the foot of the bluffs and overlooks the Mississippi River (pool #9) on National Scenic Highway 35 (The Great River Road).  The Grandview features 9 beautiful modern and comfortable rooms, all with a spectacular 20 mile panoramic view of the Mississippi River and the Iowa bluffs.  

Area Attractions: 

Lock and Dam #9 (Lynxville to Genoa) Commonly referred to as Pool #9 on the Mississippi River  - Great Hunting, Fishing and Watersports. Home to numerous local and regional fishing tournaments. 

Rush Creek State Natural Area
(2000+acres) some of the midwest's premier turkey and deer hunting.  Easy access for bow hunting. 

Clemens Fishing Barge - Walleye, sauger, perch and panfish fishing. Great fishing year around. 

Train Enthusiast - Easy access to both the Iowa and Wisconsin tracks allows great viewing of daily train traffic. 

Motorcycle tours  - We gladly open our doors to motorcycle groups passing through. A great way to see the fall colors as the leaves turn each fall. Called "leaf runs" by local groups. 

Hubbard's Fishing Float  - Hwy. 35 N, Float is located just below Lock & Dam #9, 10 minutes north of Prairie du Chien, WI.  The fishing float offers great fishing in a prime spot for those who do not have a boat. Fishing tackle available.

Yellow River State Forest - A 6600 acre forest (camping, scenic drives and overlooks, trout fishing, canoeing, hiking, hunting, camping, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, horseback trails).

Public Beaches:  Numerous Mississippi River sandbars are ideal for swimming, picnicking and camping.

Canoeing:   The Upper Iowa and Yellow Rivers, plus the Mississippi River backwaters are all top-rated canoe routes bordered by magnificent palisades.

Hunting:   The area is a prime duck hunting area due to its central location on the Mississippi River Flyway. Hundreds of thousands of waterfowl move down this river valley during the fall migration.

The area's rugged and timbered ridges and hollows combined with the Mississippi River bottom lands make this a long standing turkey and white tail hunting paradise. Over 15,000 acres of public hunting grounds are available in local Iowa and Wisconsin Counties.

Fishing:   Bass, northern pike, walleye, sunfish, perch, crappie, bluegill and catfish swim in the channel and backwaters in the Lansing area. There are also over 20 trout streams that are stocked in the local area. A wonderful ice fishing region with solid fishing action on tip-ups.

Birding:   This area is quickly becoming a premier birding mecca due to its location within the Upper Mississippi Wildlife Refuge.  Local annual fall Birding festival draws people from all over the world.  Bird watching is great for all ages. 

Lansing, Iowa (4 miles) offers the Commercial Fishing Museum including steam-boating, commercial fishing, the pearl button industry, and ice harvesting. Located on Front Street in Lansing. unique history as a river town comes to life in this specialized museum, featuring a collection of memorabilia from the early development of the town. Authentic wooden boats and artifacts offer visitors a glimpse at the early clamming and clamshell button industries as well as commercial fishing and ice harvesting. An extensive photograph collection documents the growth of this Iowa river town, which was an important ferry point for immigrants crossing the Mississippi River in the early days of westward expansion. The Old Stone School Building (Lansing) Built in 1864 this school remained in use for 108 years making it the oldest school in continuous use west of the Mississippi.

Mt. Hosmer - In 1851, Harriet Hosmer, a noted sculptress won a footrace to the top of this hill. Today visitors can enjoy a spectacular view of three states (Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota) and the beautiful Mississippi River simply by driving to the top of Mt. Hosmer, named in Ms. Hosmer's honor.

Allamakee County Historical Society Museum - The Museum is housed in the original Allamakee Courthouse built in 1861. Within the Museum, one will discover rooms furnished to reflect the 19th century, displays of farm tools, military items, medical room, and the court room-complete with the judge’s bench, chair and gavel.

Blackhawk Memorial Park - 7 miles north of Lansing, Iowa at the Battle of Bad Axe site.

Fish Farm Mounds (New Albin, Iowa)- Fish Farm Mounds State Preserve is a three-acre prehistoric cemetery (mound group) located in the southern portion of the 576-acre Fish Farm Mounds Wildlife Area. The Preserve contains a cluster of thirty conical mounds of various sizes, which were built by Native Americans from 100 B.C. to 650 A.D. The Wildlife Area is mostly wooded and is abundant with wildlife, making it a popular hunting area. (Free Admission)

Effigy Mounds National Monument - National Park Service property - Iowa's only national monument, the Effigy Mounds. There are 206 known prehistoric American Indian mounds within the borders of the park, 31 of which are shaped in the likeness (effigy) of bears or birds.

The 2,526-acre park is divided into two units (North and South) by the Yellow River. Walking trails provide modest to extended routes, allowing you to select your route and view a variety of mounds. Open year-round, (Children under 16 free; admission fee for adults). An accessible boardwalk trail into the wetlands near the Visitor Center is available for disabled visitors and persons of all walking abilities.

Great River Road – Highway 35 National Scenic Byway covers 250 miles of adventure with thousands of points of interest  along the Mississippi River.

Black Hawk Recreation Area & Marker – DeSoto The marker commemorates the site of the 1832 Battle of Bad Axe, where Chief Black Hawk and his band of Sauk followers made their historic stand against the U.S. infantry.

 

Lady Luck Casino – Marquette, IA - Over 750 slots, table games; two hour cruises on the Mississippi River weekdays throughout spring and summer; regional and headline entertainment.

 

Kickapoo Indian Caverns – Wauzeka, WI - Carved by underground rivers and used for centuries as shelter by Native Americans, the ancient cavern stands as testament to nature’s creativity, with the Majestic Cathedral Room featuring a 60’ high onyx ceiling, the Frozen Waterfall, and the Turquoise Room.  Largest show cave in the Midwest. 

 

Villa Louis Historical Site & Markers – Prairie du Chien- Located on St. Feriole Island, National historic landmark site owned and operated by the Wisconsin Historical Society. Tour six historic structures including the Villa Louis mansion.
